Privacy Tips

Every time we publish a new tip, we will update the archive below. Our goal is to give away all of our information for free.

Don't thank us. Thank our friends at DuckDuckGo for sponsoring the show and this website.

What Are These #Hashtags?

-They're called "Privacy Tips" because that's faster and easier to say. But these tips cover a whole bunch of topics that relate to our goal of protecting you from fascists and weirdos.

So, after each tip below, you'll see a tag, and I'd like to quickly explain what those tags are:

#mobile: Specific security tips for mobile devices.

#laptop: Specific security tips for laptops.

#safety: Specific tips for protecting yourself offline.

#privacy: Specific tips for protecting your data.

#anonymity: Specific tips for protecting your information offline and online.

#digitaldetox: Explains how to use these devices less and to be more intentional when you do use them.

#money: Since people don't distinguish between their digital activity and spending/saving/investing money, we'll give advice where appropriate on managing your money and shielding your financial activity from fascists and weirdos.

#disinformation: How to spot, detect, and fight disinformation.

#OSINT: How to use information gathering tools to proactively protect yourself from fascists and weirdos.

#activism: How to organize, communicate, and promote your message to protect your community from fascists and weirdos.

#philosophy: Explains the rationale for all of the above.

We're also going to recommend books as we go along, so any time we do that, you'll also see a tag that says #books. These book links are affiliate links that promote Book Shop, an alternative to Amazon that also supports your local independent bookseller. The affiliate link costs you nothing extra to use, and kick back a little money to us if you'd like to help support this project.

What If I Need Additional Help?

When we last did Stupid Sexy Privacy, we heard from a lot of people who listened to the show, and asked the following:

  1. "I have a specific problem. Can you help me?"
  2. "I need someone to work with me hands on in implementing this privacy tip, this privacy tip, and this privacy tip. Can you help me do that?"
  3. "I want someone to do all of this for me. Here's some cash, can you go and purchase a new Pixel phone and new Macbook Pro and set all this stuff up?"

The answers are:

  1. It depends! If you have a specific problem you want to talk about, you can email us at stupidsexyprivacy[at]duck[dot]com. If we can't help, we can recommend someone — in a lot of these cases, it's usually an IT professional or an Attorney — who can. There's no charge for this. And most of these specific problems can be solved by following the Privacy Tips below.
  2. Yes. We call these "Privacy Audits." We offer one on one sessions, via Signal, where we can walk you through the specific steps you're having trouble with, and answer any questions you have. We do charge for these. You can email us at stupidsexyprivacy[at]duck[dot]com with "Privacy Audit" in the subject line of your email.
  3. Yes. If you want to hire us to be your Privacy Concierge, which is where we travel to you, purchase all the equipment in cash, and then set it all up, we can do that too. You can email us at stupidsexyprivacy[at]duck[dot]com with "Sheetrock" in the subject line of your email.

And if you're like, "Why would you need someone else to purchase new equipment for you in cash?" Keep on reading ...
